Welcome to the Ludlow and Ludford Almshouses
Providing secure, comfortable and affordable homes for older people in the heart of our historic town.
The Ludlow and Ludford Almshouses represent a group of long-standing charitable foundations, each established to support older people in need of secure, good-quality housing within the local community. Managed collectively by a single Administrative Board, the group provides 34 individual homes across six sites in Ludlow and Ludford, maintaining a strong commitment to independence, dignity and community for every resident.
The four constituent charities are:
- Hosyer–Foxe Charity
- Louisa Powell Almshouse Charity
- Elizabeth Massey Almshouse Charity
- Sir Job Charlton Almshouse Charity
Our aim is to provide low-cost, self-contained accommodation for older individuals who are in financial or housing need. Residents live independently, with access to communal facilities and light-touch support from a dedicated Facilities Manager. All properties are managed as social housing under licence, not tenancy, and are maintained to a high standard by the Board and its appointed contractors.
This website provides detailed information about each of the almshouses, their locations and facilities, along with eligibility guidance, application procedures, and policies relevant to both prospective and current residents. Trustees can also find key documentation and resources here.
If you or someone you know might benefit from supported independent living in a peaceful and neighbourly setting, we invite you to explore the site and get in touch.
The website provides information about the individual charities, accommodation, application and qualifications to apply for a vacancy and the management and contact details of the Almshouses.
